What is a team? Is it simply a sum of individuals? We know that when we talk about people 1+1 could be equals 1, 2 or 3 depending on team dynamics. Unfortunately, too many companies when they have to work on teams consider only an aggregate of their people competencies.

The TeamX team has done its homework! There is a growing body of research on teams. You can look at some studies, that you van find at the end of the post, that explores which drivers most impact on team performance. It’s evident how dynamics, team members and leader’s competencies are equally important. We can synthesize those findings with the following image.

Which are the most important competencies? We have found 18 attributes that impact on team’s outcomes.

And What about the dynamics? There are three main dynamics among people which have a particularly significant impact on team performance: Trust, Synergy among people and Orientation to excellence.

We have validated the model using a database of more than 80.000 people from more than 50 Countries; the survey has undergone three rounds of validation testing and it has been used in several significant research studies. Based on the norm group components and Outcomes of Performance, descriptive statics well complies with validation guidelines. The TeamX survey is validated through Factorial Analysis; the competencies render fair construct validity. Cronbach’s coefficient alpha ranges from 0.63 to 0.81 based on a small number of items per component, showing satisfying reliability.
